Our HistoryThe Bible Baptist Church was organized by 15 persons on August 29, 1940, and called George McCauley as the first pastor. Mr. McCauley was followed in February of 1942 by Norman Edwards. Under his ministry, the church agreed to align itself with the Empire State Fellowship in October 1942 and the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches in March 1943. Continued growth in membership during that year enabled the church to purchase property located at 54 Port Watson St. as a meeting place. The church was incorporated November 27, 1942 with Randall J. Caldwell presiding at the official meeting. A tract of land was purchased on Route 281 in March 1951 (the church's present location) and the new auditorium was dedicated on September 4, 1955. The Christian Education Building was erected and auditorium remodeled with Dedication Service held on September 13, 1970. The evidence of God's blessing continued and the Cortland Christian Academy, an educational ministry of the church, was begun in 1980. The gymnasium was added in 1989.
